51�� chefs will present cooking demonstrations while other university food experts will lead coffee, honey and beer classes in California’s Kitchen at the state fair, which opens this week and runs through the end of the month.

Students’ Winning Ale Going on Sale

Raise a glass to the newest beer in town: a Scottish export ale created by 51�� students that is due to go on sale this week. Mighty Gale Ale’s production by Sudwerk Brewing Co. of Davis was the prize for the students and their ale having won the 2022 51�� Iron Brew Competition among brewing science students.

Iron Brew Winner: Caledonian Nights

Cheers to the student team whose Scottish export style ale, Caledonian Nights, winner of 51��’ 2020 Iron Brew competition, hit the market last week.

But that was only part of the prize in this annual event. Undergraduates Baoluo Gao, Eitan Newfield, Andres Rugama and Charlie Thudium also seized the opportunity to be involved every step along the way, from the brewing to the canning, to sales and distribution — all of which they did with the assistance of the university’s Iron Brew partner, Sudwerk Brewing Co. of Davis.
